79. An-Nazi'at (النازعات)
بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمـٰنِ الرَّحيمِ
Verse 1
وَالنّـٰزِعـٰتِ غَرقًا
Translation
By those who pull out [evil souls][1] harshly,

and by those who draw out [good souls][1] gently,

and by those who glide swiftly[1],

فَالسّـٰبِقـٰتِ سَبقًا
Translation
and those who overtake one another as in a race[1],

and those who carry out the command [of Allah],

on the Day when the earth convulses [by the first Blast],

قُلوبٌ يَومَئِذٍ واجِفَةٌ

يَقولونَ أَءِنّا لَمَردودونَ فِى الحافِرَةِ
Translation
They say, “Will we be brought back to life,

أَءِذا كُنّا عِظـٰمًا نَخِرَةً
Translation
after we have turned into decayed bones[1]?”

قالوا تِلكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خاسِرَةٌ
Translation
They say, “Then that would surely be a losing return[1]!”

فَإِنَّما هِىَ زَجرَةٌ وٰحِدَةٌ

It will only be a single Blast,

then they will immediately be above the ground.

هَل أَتىٰكَ حَديثُ موسىٰ
Translation
Has there come to you the story of Moses,

إِذ نادىٰهُ رَبُّهُ بِالوادِ المُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
Translation
when his Lord called out to him at the sacred valley of Tuwa?

اذهَب إِلىٰ فِرعَونَ إِنَّهُ طَغىٰ
Translation
[Saying,] “Go to Pharaoh, for he has transgressed all bounds”.

فَقُل هَل لَكَ إِلىٰ أَن تَزَكّىٰ
Translation
And say: ‘Are you willing to be purified,

وَأَهدِيَكَ إِلىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخشىٰ
Translation
and I will guide you to your Lord so that you may fear Him?’”

فَأَرىٰهُ الـٔايَةَ الكُبرىٰ
Translation
Then Moses showed him the greatest sign[1].

فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصىٰ
Translation
But Pharaoh denied it and disobeyed.

Then he turned back striving to plot.

فَحَشَرَ فَنادىٰ

He gathered [his people] and proclaimed,

فَقالَ أَنا۠ رَبُّكُمُ الأَعلىٰ
Translation
saying, “I am your lord, the most high.”

فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكالَ الـٔاخِرَةِ وَالأولىٰ
Translation
So Allah seized him for an exemplary punishment in this life and in the Hereafter[1].

إِنَّ فى ذٰلِكَ لَعِبرَةً لِمَن يَخشىٰ
Translation
Indeed, there is a lesson in this for those who fear Allah.

ءَأَنتُم أَشَدُّ خَلقًا أَمِ السَّماءُ ۚ بَنىٰها
Translation
Are you more difficult to create or the heaven that He built?

رَفَعَ سَمكَها فَسَوّىٰها
Translation
He raised its vault high and proportioned it,

وَأَغطَشَ لَيلَها وَأَخرَجَ ضُحىٰها
Translation
and darkened its night and brought forth its daylight.

وَالأَرضَ بَعدَ ذٰلِكَ دَحىٰها
Translation
And thereafter He spread out the earth,

أَخرَجَ مِنها ماءَها وَمَرعىٰها
Translation
brought forth from it its water and its pasture,

وَالجِبالَ أَرسىٰها

and set the mountains firmly,

مَتـٰعًا لَكُم وَلِأَنعـٰمِكُم

as a provision for you and your grazing livestock.

فَإِذا جاءَتِ الطّامَّةُ الكُبرىٰ
Translation
But when the Supreme Calamity comes[1],

يَومَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الإِنسـٰنُ ما سَعىٰ
Translation
on that Day man will remember all what he did,

and the Blazing Fire will be exposed for all to see.

As for those who transgressed,

وَءاثَرَ الحَيوٰةَ الدُّنيا

and preferred the life of this world,

فَإِنَّ الجَحيمَ هِىَ المَأوىٰ
Translation
the Blazing Fire will be their abode.

وَأَمّا مَن خافَ مَقامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفسَ عَنِ الهَوىٰ
Translation
But those who feared standing before their Lord and restrained themselves from evil desires,

Verse 41
فَإِنَّ الجَنَّةَ هِىَ المَأوىٰ
Translation
Paradise will surely be their abode.

يَسـَٔلونَكَ عَنِ السّاعَةِ أَيّانَ مُرسىٰها
Translation
They ask you concerning the Hour, “When will it be[1]?”

Translation
You are only a warner for those who fear it.

كَأَنَّهُم يَومَ يَرَونَها لَم يَلبَثوا إِلّا عَشِيَّةً أَو ضُحىٰها
Translation
On the Day when they see it[1], it will be as if they had remained [in this world] no more than an evening or a morning.
