77. Al-Mursalat (المرسلات)
بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمـٰنِ الرَّحيمِ
Verse 1
وَالمُرسَلـٰتِ عُرفًا
Translation
By those [winds] sent forth in succession,

فَالعـٰصِفـٰتِ عَصفًا
Translation
those that blow violently,

وَالنّـٰشِرٰتِ نَشرًا
Translation
and scatter [rainclouds] far and wide,

فَالفـٰرِقـٰتِ فَرقًا
Translation
And by those [angels] who bring criterion[1];

فَالمُلقِيـٰتِ ذِكرًا
Translation
and those who deliver revelation,

عُذرًا أَو نُذرًا
Translation
leaving no excuse or giving warning –

إِنَّما توعَدونَ لَوٰقِعٌ
Translation
what you are promised will surely come to pass.

فَإِذَا النُّجومُ طُمِسَت
Translation
So when the stars are effaced,

وَإِذَا السَّماءُ فُرِجَت

and when the sky is split apart,

وَإِذَا الجِبالُ نُسِفَت

and when the mountains are blown away,

وَإِذَا الرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَت

and when the messengers are summoned[1],

لِأَىِّ يَومٍ أُجِّلَت
Translation
until which Day has all this been postponed?

لِيَومِ الفَصلِ
Translation
Until the Day of Judgment.

وَما أَدرىٰكَ ما يَومُ الفَصلِ
Translation
How do you know what the Day of Judgment is?

وَيلٌ يَومَئِذٍ لِلمُكَذِّبينَ
Translation
Woe on that Day to the deniers[1]!

أَلَم نُهلِكِ الأَوَّلينَ
Translation
Did We not destroy the earlier nations?

Then We will do likewise to the later ones.

Translation
This is how We deal with the wicked.

Woe on that Day to the deniers!

أَلَم نَخلُقكُم مِن ماءٍ مَهينٍ
Translation
Did We not create you from a lowly fluid,

فَجَعَلنـٰهُ فى قَرارٍ مَكينٍ
Translation
then We placed it in a secure repository

إِلىٰ قَدَرٍ مَعلومٍ
Translation
for a determined period[1]?

فَقَدَرنا فَنِعمَ القـٰدِرونَ
Translation
For We determined it; How excellently We determine!

Have We not made the earth a receptacle[1]

أَحياءً وَأَموٰتًا
Translation
for the living and the dead,

وَجَعَلنا فيها رَوٰسِىَ شـٰمِخـٰتٍ وَأَسقَينـٰكُم ماءً فُراتًا
Translation
and placed therein firm towering mountains, and given you fresh water to drink?

وَيلٌ يَومَئِذٍ لِلمُكَذِّبينَ
Translation
Woe on that Day to the deniers!

انطَلِقوا إِلىٰ ما كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبونَ
Translation
[They will be told,] “Proceed to that [Fire] which you used to deny!

انطَلِقوا إِلىٰ ظِلٍّ ذى ثَلـٰثِ شُعَبٍ
Translation
Proceed to the shadow [of smoke] ascending in three columns,

لا ظَليلٍ وَلا يُغنى مِنَ اللَّهَبِ
Translation
that provides neither shade nor protection from the flames.

إِنَّها تَرمى بِشَرَرٍ كَالقَصرِ
Translation
Indeed, it [i.e., Hell] throws up sparks as big as castles,

كَأَنَّهُ جِمـٰلَتٌ صُفرٌ
Translation
as if they were tawny camels[1].

هـٰذا يَومُ لا يَنطِقونَ
Translation
On that Day they won’t speak,

وَلا يُؤذَنُ لَهُم فَيَعتَذِرونَ
Translation
nor will they be allowed to make excuses.

Translation
Woe on that Day to the deniers!

هـٰذا يَومُ الفَصلِ ۖ جَمَعنـٰكُم وَالأَوَّلينَ
Translation
[They will be told,] “This is the Day of Judgment: We have gathered you along with the earlier generations.

فَإِن كانَ لَكُم كَيدٌ فَكيدونِ
Translation
So if you have any scheme, then plot it against Me.”

Translation
Woe on that Day to the deniers!

إِنَّ المُتَّقينَ فى ظِلـٰلٍ وَعُيونٍ
Translation
Indeed, the righteous will be amid shades and springs

وَفَوٰكِهَ مِمّا يَشتَهونَ
Translation
and will have whatever fruit they desire.

كُلوا وَاشرَبوا هَنيـًٔا بِما كُنتُم تَعمَلونَ
Translation
[They will be told,] “Eat and drink joyfully, as a reward for what you used to do.”

إِنّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجزِى المُحسِنينَ
Translation
This is how We reward those who do good.

Translation
Woe on that Day to the deniers!

كُلوا وَتَمَتَّعوا قَليلًا إِنَّكُم مُجرِمونَ
Translation
“Eat and enjoy yourselves for a while; you are truly wicked.”

وَإِذا قيلَ لَهُمُ اركَعوا لا يَركَعونَ
Translation
When it is said to them, “Bow [in prayer],” they do not bow.
